Barren River State Dock is a Barren River Lake marina that does more than tie up boats. You can rent a tritoon, pontoon or kayak for the day, keep your own boat in a seasonal or annual slip, fuel up and stock up at the store. All of it sits within the state resort park at Lucas.
The State Park established the marina in 1966. Many people know it simply as the state dock marina in the park, and that is still what it is. The Rubright family has owned and run it since January 2020.
The rental fleet includes two Crest double decker tritoons, a 23-foot Crest tritoon, an aluminum double decker pontoon that seats 18, and single and double kayaks. Tubes, kneeboards, skis and wakeboards can be added to a booking. Our boat rentals page lists each boat with its capacity, horsepower and published full-day rate.
Seasonal slips come covered or uncovered, and annual slips run from 10×30 up to 22×80. Seasonal space outnumbers annual space overall. The slips page explains the sizes and how to ask about an opening.
The store stocks snacks, cold drinks, ice, souvenirs and lake supplies. Fuel at the dock is ethanol free and treated with Primrose, and it is guaranteed for twelve months against water spoiling it.
The Corps of Engineers built Barren River Lake as a reservoir in south central Kentucky, held back by Barren River Dam. Much of the shoreline is wooded rather than built up, which gives the lake a quiet look from the water. Fishing, cruising, tubing and swimming in the coves are the usual reasons to come.
Among the lakes in Kentucky, Barren River is a manageable size for a family day. You can cover a good stretch of water in a rented pontoon and still be back at the dock for dinner.
The Barren River marina season opens in mid April and ends in mid October; summer days and holiday weekends get the longest hours. The marina and store shut for the winter. Hours can change with weather or events, so phone 270-646-2357 before a special trip, and see the 2026 schedule on our contact page.
For rentals, book early for summer weekends and holidays, when boats go fast. For slips, send your boat length and whether you want seasonal or annual space. For anything else, the team at Barren River State Dock will help by phone or through the form on this page.
Arrive a little before your rental time so there is room to load the cooler and go over the boat with the staff. Bring sunscreen, hats, water and a towel per person. Check the weather that morning, since summer storms can build quickly over the lake. If you are keeping your own boat here, walk the docks with the team before you choose a slip, so you can see how the covered and open spaces sit and which suits your boat best.
The marina serves several kinds of visitor at once: park guests renting for a day, slip holders who come back every weekend, and boaters already on the lake who stop for fuel and ice. The team is set up to help all of them, and a quick call will point you to the right person.
